What Time Is This?

In thinking of all that's transpired in the last 24 hours, this came to mind:

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
(Ecclesiastes 3:3, NIV)

Amidst the rejoicing, the relief, the pats on the back and such about the killing of Osama bin Laden a verse from the Bible came to my mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that this President had the guts to command this hit. I'm glad that he made it a priority and I'm glad that he did it in the way he did, with stealth like precision. Yet I think that this President and those prior to him have had their time to kill and their time to tear down. Service men and women though buoyed by the success of the kill, are surely weary after 10 years of war. The families they leave behind on each tour of duty often times struggle in their absence. The families of soldiers who paid the price with their lives, live with the loss of their loved ones every day.

Does the United States need to "cut and run" as the right use to say? No. I'm not a military expert, however I know that bringing everybody home from every conflict immediately is not feasible, nor practical. Yet the President and all his men and women must consider now as the time to begin the ending of this country's involvement in conflicts abroad.

I believe that now is the time to heal, now is the time to build.
