No longer fringe

I'm absolutely convinced that outside supernaturally turning into a white man, Barack Obama is not eligible to be President
of the United States of America in the eyes of the birthers and tea party folks.

The fact that this man, this black man was duly elected by the people of this country, all kinds of people, especially white people holds no weight with the racist birther right. The production of the long form birth certificate, which this group of people demanded to see has done nothing to kill their appetite for destruction of his presidency and further more the destruction of this democracy that these folk claim to have a special foothold on.

The birth certificate has only added fuel to their inferno of hate. A hate so deep seated that they will stop at nothing to discredit him and scoff at what is absolutely
undeniable truth.

During the 2008 campaign this segment of folks were merely considered looney -- the lunatic fringe. Now as we approach 2012, we can no longer consider them fringe. For me at least I'd posit that the birthers are teetering on the edge of hate group status.

A hate group is: "an organized group or movement that advocates and practices hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other designated sector of society. According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) a hate groups have a 'primary purpose is to promote animosity, hostility, and malice against persons belonging to a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin which differs from that of the members of the organization'."

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) goes further: "All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their
immutable characteristics...Hate group activities can include criminal acts, marches, rallies, speeches, meetings, leafleting or publishing."

Sound familiar? Does to me. Forget Trump, I'm talking about lawmakers. Sounds like Reepiblican members of congress who have sponsored a birther bill. Sounds like Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona and her state legislators who passed SB 1070. Sounds like like the legislators of my fine state of Georgia who passed HB 87 which is awaiting signature of Governor Deal. Sounds like gun toting, tea party rally attendees. Sounds like hate.

Questioning the birth and educational credentials of a sitting president, pushing him to produce papers proving who he is, is beyond the pale in 2011. Slavery was abolished in this country yet, brown folks and the most important black man in the world must prove who they are/who he is.

This hate group of birthers and tea party racists are turning back the hands of time. How far will we, the Americans who believe in liberty and justice for all allow them to push? When will we push back?
